Hello Folks,
The Resilient Durant Charrette will take place next week (March 6 & 7). All students are required to read the Charrette Reader thoroughly before the event. (Find more information on the Course Website, under Charrette)
Attendance
The charrette is mandatory and counts for up to 20 points towards your final grade. If you are unable to attend, you must email me with an explanation note by the end of tomorrow. We will schedule a meeting to discuss possible alternatives.
Please note that accommodations are made at my discretion. Because this is a collaborative learning event, your absence affects not only your own experience but also your team’s collective work.
If you have a conflict with another class on either day, please communicate with me as early as possible so I can coordinate with your other instructor to determine an appropriate plan. Formal letters can be provided if needed.
Charrette Project
The charrette is not a direct work session on your final project (complete street or market square). Instead, it is a holistic exploration of city resilience and its application across multiple scales in Durant. The insights gained during the charrette will directly inform your final project moving forward.

11:30 AM

Assignment 2 is due at 11:59 AM (noon) this coming Monday, and you should be prepared to present your case study during the next class session.
Please make sure to follow the instructions closely. If you have questions about the expectations or format, feel free to reach out to me or the TA ahead of time. Please don’t wait until the last minute.
Best,

Hello folks,
For our upcoming class, we will begin with a 30-minute group discussion on interview strategies, followed by a Zoom meeting with community partners (approximately one hour, no longer than 1.5 hours). We will then continue with the lecture during the second half of class.
Before class, you should:
- Be familiar with the preliminary findings from last class’s group presentations.
All materials are available here: [link] - Review the project reference materials, which provide important background information to complement your preliminary research.
Access them here: [link] - For the readings this week, you do not need to read the entire book. Instead, focus on becoming familiar with the overall goals and intent of the content, especially the graphics and diagrams.
Although the Stakeholder Interview Group will primarily facilitate the conversation, all students are expected to actively participate in the interview session. Please prepare questions that help address uncertainties, gaps in your research, or aspects of the project you would like to better understand.
Meeting with community partners is a valuable part of applied research and design practice. Please come prepared and ready to engage.
Best,
WL

Welcome to EnD 4993 Environmental Design Capstone in Spring 2026. I am looking forward to meeting you in person on Monday January 26, 2026.
The course website will serve as the primary hub for all course information, including the syllabus, schedule, readings, assignments, and announcements. Please make it a habit to check the course website regularly, as it will be the most up-to-date source of information throughout the semester.
We will also use Canvas for assignment submissions, feedback, and grading. All information posted on the course website will be synced to Canvas for your reference; you may also access Canvas directly through the course website at your convenience. However, the course website should be considered the primary source for course materials and updates.
Before our first class meeting, please take a few minutes to:
- Finish the pre-class survey by this Friday, January 23.
- Look through the readings for this class on the course website.
Best,
